On Saturday, November 18, Massabesic High School’s NJROTC cadets competed in the All New England Drill League of Navy JROTC against schools from New Hampshire, Massachusetts, and Rhode Island. Saturday’s meeting was one of four annual competitions taking place this fall. The event was an opportunity for students to compete in challenges including physical fitness and to practice leadership, discipline, and good sportsmanship.
In the Individual Drill Knockout - an event akin to “Simon Says” for drill knowledge - over 100 students competed to be in the last ten cadets standing. Eligible participants include first, second, and third year cadets only, and once students have earned a “top ten” spot, they can no longer compete in the event. We are proud to share that of the top ten students who finished the Knockout, FIVE of them were from our MHS NJROTC! Congratulations to first year cadets Terver Kinney, Grace Shipman, Alley Heath, Guardian Boedecker (Bonny Eagle), and Aiden Parsons (Bonny Eagle) for their win!

It is with great excitement and pride that we announce the recipients of the Model Mustang Staff Award for the month of November! This award is a tribute to those outstanding individuals who embody the qualities of a true “Model Mustang”; they inspire, lead, foster positivity, persevere, and excel in all that they do. Each Model Mustang was nominated by colleagues who took the time to acknowledge and celebrate their coworkers’ exceptional contributions to our district. Their hard work and commitment have not gone unnoticed, and we are grateful for the positive impact they have within RSU 57! Click the link to view November's Model Mustang Award recipients. Congratulations to members of MHS Field Hockey for recent Maine Field Hockey Associations State-wide recognitions:
Sydney Duncan and Gianna Thibeault earned Academic All State recognition. Academic All State takes into consideration class rank and rolling GPA. Gianna and Sydney are 2 of only 95 players in the state of Maine who have achieved such high academic standards!
Eliza Rogers and Paige Stephenson have earned All State recognition this year. A total of only 61 athletes from across the state of Maine and across all classes received this honor this year. Eliza and Paige will be recognized at the Maine Field Hockey Association banquet on Sunday, December 3rd at the Augusta Civic Center.

Last night, the RSU 57 School Board recognized three MHS students for their outstanding achievements. Senior Hunter VanBrocklin was chosen by the Maine Educators of Gifted and Talented (MEGAT) as the winner of the statewide student "Passionate Changemaker Award". Hunter had the opportunity to speak during the Fall 2023 MEGAT Conference at the end of October. Senior Jacob Lebrun and Junior Walker Vivian wrote essays last Spring for the AMVETS National "Americanism" contest. After advancing from local to state finals, Jacob and Walker won at the national level and attended the 2023 Spirit of America Youth Leadership Conference this past week. Congratulations, all!
