Congratulations go out to two MHS freshmen for winning first and second place in this year's AMVETs essay contest held here in Southern Maine. Eliza Lowell and Gianna Thibeault took first and second place for their patriotic essays to the prompt "What Do I Think of When I See the American Flag?". On behalf of the national organization PAVe (Parents Against Vaping), we are sharing this free Maine parent and teacher event on the youth e-cigarette epidemic and how to support our kids to avoid or quit vaping. Given the severity of the youth vaping epidemic and its threat to our kids, we know this is an ongoing issue for schools and communities. Link to register: Not Just Vapor: Maine Thursday, February 25, 5pm Eastern via Zoom

Athletics / Activities Update- 1-2-21 Happy New Year! Here is to 2021 being a drastic improvement from 2020! As many of you are aware the State County review which occurred Thursday has once again placed York County in the Yellow color designation which means there will be no in person meetings after school hours for clubs, activities and athletics. It was announced the next review will come on January 14th. In the mean time we will not be able to hold in person meetings, practices or games. We appreciate the frustration this causes and how much our kids need these programs as an outlet. We will continue to be prepared to go when we get the "Green" light. Thank you for your patience and we look forward to getting back at it as soon as it is safe to do so. If. you have any questions please reach out to me directly. brendanscully@rsu57.org. 207-247-3141. ext 2216.

Hello all, This year the Student Council is doing our school shirts a little differently. Normally we would order shirts ahead of time and then sell them to students and staff. This year we are taking more precautions and selling completely online. You will place your orders online, and your items will be shipped directly to your home. Another luxury we have selling this way is there is a much larger selection of items! We appreciate your support, and hope to see you all wearing your new Mustang Nation gear after break! Please use the following link to access the store. https://pws.atlanticsportswear.com/product-cat/massabesic-hs-gray-black-2020/

Hope everybody is staying healthy! One of the requirements for participation in Massabesic athletics is to have each student-athlete complete a concussion baseline ImPACT test prior to a contact-practice/event. The reason for this test is to have a baseline of each athlete's "normal" neurocognitive function, which will be used in comparison with their test results after a suspected concussion to help identify any neurocognitive deficiencies due to a concussion. Due to COVID-19 guidelines, baseline testing will be completed at home this year. Please see attached letter that contains the instructions on how to complete the ImPACT test. Testing should be completed in a quiet, distraction-free environment to get valid and accurate results to prevent needing to re-take it. At the high school level, ImPACT tests are valid for 2 years and are required for all incoming freshmen, any student new to athletics at MHS or a student that has a baseline that will expire within their allotted season. Each coach will have a list of the kids who need ImPACT testing based on the current RevTrak registrations. If you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to me at emilynicholson@rsu57.org. Please have patience as this is a new process. Thank you, Emily Nicholson, LAT, ATC Athletic Trainer SMHC Sports Performance Center Massabesic High School emilynicholson@rsu57.org
