Good Morning, As I’m sure many of you are aware, the Department of Education as well as the Department of Health and Human Services responded yesterday to the Maine Principals Associations plans for Interscholastic Athletics in Maine High Schools. Additionally yesterday the guidelines for community recreation have been updated by the Maine Department of Economic and Community development. DOE and DHHS have returned the plan for restarting interscholastic athletics to the MPA and have also asked for more time for schools to reopen safely before athletic activity. As a result, we await further State agency guidance regarding all fall interscholastic activities. We fully understand the frustration many are feeling at this time and we ask that you stay positive. We will keep you updated as this situation continues to evolve. Thank you! Sincerely, Brendan Scully Activities Director RSU 57

Maine Principals Association New Release 8-19-20 We are presented with an unprecedented situation with the COVID-19 virus and continue to map the way as we move forward in a hopeful return to some fall activities. Currently, there has been no decision made regarding the fall season. The MPA Sports Medicine Committee, and individual sport committees, along with guidance from the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS), will look at each individual activity and a possible safe return for athletes, coaches, officials, and fans. We continue to work cooperatively with the Maine Department of Education, the Governor’s Office, DHHS, DECD, and the CDC, as well as Maine Athletic Directors, Superintendents, and School Boards as we develop possible guidelines regarding school athletics and activities. We understand that a decision needs to be made and assure you that one will be made in a timely fashion. We also would like to take an opportunity to thank each one of you that serve on an MPA Committee we could not do it without you! I also want to thank so many of you for your words of support they are very much appreciated!

In order to decrease the amount of meal payments being handled by students and staff, we encourage all families to sign up for our online payment system. For more information on this service please visit the document section on our website. Documents>Information>School Nutrition Did you know... that you can earn one free bonus meal when you deposit $50.00 or more onto a student meal account. For example, a payment of $50 will be charged a fee of $2.49, but in return you will receive one bonus meal on the student meal account. The value of the meal exceeds the value of the fee. Bonus meals are automatically applied at lunch once earned.

Maine's Department of Health and Human Services has received approval from Food and Nutrition Services to partner with the Maine Department of Education to provide a Pandemic EBT (P-EBT) benefit to school-aged children who normally receive free or reduced breakfast and lunch at Maine schools. This benefit will help to replace the value of school meals while students are learning remotely. Families currently receiving SNAP or TANF and have a child aged five through eighteen will receive a P-EBT benefit on their Pine Tree card in May. Families who are not receiving SNAP or TANF and have a child who is eligible for free or reduced school lunch can request the P-EBT benefit by calling 1-855-797-4357. Some household information will be requested by a phone agent who will then verify eligibility with the Maine Department of Education. Families who have not yet been found eligible for free or reduced lunch can apply through their local school district at the following link. www.myschoolapps.com Separate P-EBT cards will be issued for eligible families who do not already have a Pine Tree card. Please call our office if you cannot access the online application and we will mail you a paper copy. (207)247-3221 x2257
